The National Library

Today I went to the National Library!(seriously) I love the way the lettering glows on this pic. It's like "tadaaa" or Alleluia! I had some research to do and to tell you the truth I was really impressed by the place. The staff there is really polite. I had an awesome welcome. Plus they were very helpful, they even brought me some books at my table. Aaww, I know, it's so cute.

I was sitting at the back (the back bencher side of me took over) and I was watching everyone. There was a guy looking for something on a PC, there was a school boy doing some physics homework and there was an elderly man. The elderly man caught my attention the most. He was reading a huge hardbound book. When I say huge I mean it was about 1 meter high and half meter wide. Imagine such a book! It was in fact, a compilation of old newspapers and he was really absorbed in the pages, taking some notes occasionally. I could glimpse at the pages, they were genuine, old, brown paper! You know the kind of paper that makes you feel it's been touched by people from the past. I waited for the man to finish reading but he kept on reading and finally when he decided to leave the place, it was quite late and I had to leave too.

I guess I'll have to go back there! I'm really curious to examine those old newspapers dudettes and dudes. This is an obsession!

  9. Roxi, no, I did not finish it, but that's not cause of the old man, there are so many materials to consult and I'll have to go there quite often.

Kev, I'm doing a research on the evolution of languages in the past 10, 000 years, starting with Sanskrit to the languages that we know of today and a probable connection between those languages.

  14. well, that's because you had to specify the type of study you are doing on the library card and they look for books for you!

  16. good luck for the remainder of ur research work.
I have got here my university's library too for the researchers like you but believe me instead of studying there, students find it a fascinating place for a break from long hectic day and go for a silent sleep. :-)

  19. avesh, everyone laughed deep down ;)

Roxi, I've been guilty of sleeping in the university library too. That's cause you've got individual cabins to study and you've got all the privacy to sleep and drool without anyone noticing! :D
But at the national library the study area is a single vast hall with many tables where everyone can see everyone! lol

monisha, yup it's really fun to observe people without them noticing! :D

manico, hehe, i was studying evolution of languages! :D

Lord Manila, sure sure! But it's unfortunate that I can't take pictures inside the place. It would have been nice to share pictures of those old newspapers with you guys. :(
