How I got sick

It's 1.37 AM and I'm still awake. This is really weird. I mean really really weird cause I'm supposed to have nothing to do and still I can't find sleep. OK, the real thing is, yesterday I slept for 22 hours! Yes it was 22 hours out of 24! It was so damn good. Now I know why some people are addicted to drugs(medicine, legal). LOL! (That was just in case my mum is reading my blog. Oh! and hello family!). I forgot to add, I was sick, yup once again! It all started with a very sore throat, I blame the peanut ice-cream for that. Then my nose went out of control and then the fever came. The most unwelcomed fever in summer you might think?! But no! It made me feel damn cold!

So after sleeping for 22 hours at a go, here I am, at 1.46 AM still unable to find some sleep, hearing voices of some unknown children calling me "mom!" from the forest. Yeah I know they do not exist! But really, it's freaky!

So long dudettes and dudes and my spooky aliens!

P.S: I chose the title after writing this entry, but come to think of it, who really cares how I got sick or not?! I'm fine now!

Blogging Resolutions

On MBB's forum, some days ago, Miranda started a thread on our blogging resolution. Now now! That was an interesting topic. I mean for most of us who take our blogs seriously and who constantly think about what to blog about, it is important to think about the positive changes we wish to bring to our blog for the coming year.

So what are my blogging resolutions?

- Remain unpretentious. Really, I know I am not pretentious. Though some feel otherwise! razz
- Post everyday! woooh! that's a challenge but I'll try to abide by that! hehe
- change the title of my blog (suggestions welcomed)
- talk more about movies. Really, what don't I ever talk about movies? huh...
- be more honest in my posts! Hihi, in other words, say more what's on my heart! That's gonna be fun twisted

My interpretation of the perfect end of year

Photobucket

I'm supposed to write my interpretation of the perfect end of year as MBB's end of year theme. At first I thought I'd write about something surreal like complete peace on earth or the total elimination of poverty on our planet. But then these situations would be too perfect nearing impossibility.

My perfect end of year would imply everything going on smoothly at home for the end of year festivities. What I mean by that is that I expect the food to be good, the decoration lovely and the people, that is, my family, happy and jovial. Hehe! Yeah I know, that's already asking too much. I know that one thing or the other is bound not to turn out right. But I hope everything works just fine!

That's it, this is my interpretation of the perfect end of year. I know it's a short post but I'm actually very busy cleaning up and coming up with a nice menu for the 31st.

So I wish you all a very happy new year 2008! God bless! :D

The beach

Beaches, I love them! I've always thought that I love the beach so much because I'm a piscean . Might be true! Who knows! Have you ever felt the urge to just run to the beach and spend your whole life there? :P I got this urge today. It was quite uncontrollable and I went to the beach, at Pereybere with my family and we had so much fun, it was weird.

Anyway, just a short post to say I love swimming, I love beaches and I love summer! hehe!

Take care dudettes and dudes and my warm aliens!

P.S: The water was cool today! :P

All the same - Sick Puppies

This month's crush of the month is something sweet, it's the song All the Same by Sick Puppies. This band comes from Australia and has a line-up of 3 namely,
  • Shimon Moore, doing lead vocals and guitar
  • Emma Anzai on bass and doing backing vocals
  • and Mark Goodwin on drums.

Here's the lyrics:

I dont mind where you come from
As long as you come to me
But I dont like illusions I cant see
Them clearly
I dont care, no I wouldn't dare
To fix the twist in you
You've shown me eventually what you'll do
I dont mind
I dont care
As long as you're here

[Chorus]

Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's all the same

Hours slide and days go by
Till you decide to come
But in-between it always seems too long
Suddenly
But I have the skill, yeah
I have the will, to breath you in while I can
However long you stay is all that I am

I dont mind, I dont care
As long as you're here

Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's always the same

Wrong or Right
Black or White
If I close my eyes
Its all the same

In my life
The compromise
I'll close my eyes
Its all the same

Go ahead say it
You're leaving
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same
And I'll take you for who you are now
If you take me for everything
Do it all over again
It's all the same

And the video:

A video of this song was used to promote the Free Hugs Campaign in 2006 but that's not how I came to know about this song, I simply got it on my mp3 player. Guess Jev was listening to that without telling me about it! mrgreen Anyway, at first I found the song really pop-rock sounding. I mean like all those lame stuff, where you have a guy with a nice voice and nice music in the background talking about love mainly. I guess it's really that, in fact! But what makes this song special to me is the fact that the lyrics have touched me.

My Favourite part is:

"Go ahead and tell me you'll leave again
You'll just come back running
Holding your scarred heart in hand
It's all the same"

I'm often saying I'm leaving but I never do. That's cause I always want to be with him. Anyway, that was something personal from me! For once! hihi

Well, that was my crush of the month! And I wish you a really merry Christmas just in case I'm not around during that time, preparing for dinners and stuff! Take care dudettes and dudes and my convoluted aliens! Have a wonderful end of year!

A review of my choice.

This week's theme at MBB is a Review of Your Choice. I hate to say it, cause I've said it so often, but I'm really out of inspiration. At first, I thought I'd review a blog and then I'm afraid that the blog author would not like my review and it would look ridiculous!

Finally I'm reviewing a blog and it is a blog I know very well and for once I know the author would not get mad on reading my review just because the author is me!

So, the blog is called Godspeed. I don't know why I gave it this title. Probably because of Anberlin's album or the clothing brand. Anyway, I started it somewhere in the beginning of this year. It was meant to be a serious blog. No "hihis" and "dudettes and dudes" but I can't help it, can I? So I've finally gave up on this blog while keeping it on life-support just in case I might want to write serious stuff. The thing is, I don't see my content as being really convincing. My serious opinions are meant to be voiced out loud and not written; that's what I've learnt from Godspeed.

However, I love the template, it's simple, minimalist! Yes! I love simple and minimalist templates. Does not reflect on this one, huh?

Anyway dudettes and dudes and serious aliens, that was my little review of Godspeed.

Orange cookies

They are not really orange in color but they sure have got the flavor. They are orange cookies! I've made some today cause I wanted to test this recipe before Christmas. It turned out really tasty! So I thought why not share the recipe with you guys. Note: This is a non-egg recipe.

So the ingredients are:
150g of flour
1 pinch of salt
75 of caster sugar
25g of soft brown sugar
75g of margarine
2 tablespoon of liquid milk
1/2 teaspoon of orange essence
100g of lemon/orange peels cooked in sugar

So firstly I've creamed the butter in a salad bowl using a spoon
then I've added the 2 sugars and mixed till the mixture is light and fluffy
the I've added the milk to the mixture while still mixing the content of the bowl
the the orange essence has been added
and then I've folded in the flour and fruit peels
Then it was the turn of the oven to do his job :D After cooking for 20 minutes at a temperature of 170 degrees Celsius the cookies are ready!

It would be ideal to leave them in an open space and let them cool down before serving.

So long dudettes and dudes and my cooked aliens! :D hihi

Bliss Again

Just a short post, because I wanted to post today before midnight and because I've been complimented on my blog! Hehe.

Today I'm really happy. My little cousin has created his blog. He has not started posting yet. I'm kinda really proud. I feel like the godmother of his blog. mrgreen This has made me think that kids grow! Yeah they actually do. I remember when he was born. He was so cute. Haha and I remember when he was a kid! Oh God he was weird! I remember all the moments we spent as kids at our granny's place. You know these moments never come back. I just wish they could.

P.S: Got some lovely christmas candles today. Will edit the post with some pictures tomorrow.

Goodnight dudettes and dudes and my happy aliens.

wreath-making is breath-taking.

Yep! I came up with the silly title myself. Something has been going on. Today's my parents wedding anniversary and I went to buy some stuff at Goodlands cause I'm planning a meal and a nice dessert tonight.

But before that, during the week-end, I've been making some wreaths to be used as table centerpieces. They're very easy to make, all you need are some dried weeds, tapes, scissors and the leaves of your choice. I've made one with light-colored leaves and my favourite is the Christmas wreath which requires dark-colored leaves and red flowers and ribbons. I've used leaves from our local "christmas tree" to make the christmas wreath.

It's important to secure the dried weeds together by using the large tape, so that they do not mess your whole working place. Then give the "weed tube" a round shape. This will be the base of your wreath. Then stick the leaves to the wreath by respecting a pattern and make sure that your glue or tape is not visible on the wreath.

Then, when the wreath is ready, decorate at will! :D

Wreaths can be used as table centerpieces as well as decorations on the door or on balconies. Candles looks good in the middle of wreaths too. :D

Here's a picture showing the different steps, if ever you're interested.

So long people and my festive aliens.

Blogging Blank

I'm suffering from what I call a blogging blank. Been some days since the last time I've updated my blog (this is not really a post BTW). Nothing is striking me as "blogable" recently. That's saying something, because I usually blog on any crap I see passing my way. Of course good stuff are happening in my life but I just feel like living them for now and leaving my camera aside. You know like living for once without trying to be a star! Yeah I'm going to get killed for saying it. Anyway, noticed that my pic is no more on my blog? This is certainly a change. It's the holiday season dudettes and dudes and I feel this end of year is gonna be crazy.

But before I go, here's something I wanna say.

I've got BRAINS! I'm Einstein!

OK that was 2 things but who cares? Duh! Been a while I've said duh! Duh!

Cya'll dudettes and dudes and my confused aliens.

Eliminating Poverty Locally

I have always said and still maintain that education can help solve almost every problem. For instance knowledge on pollution and on the importance of a clean environment can help solve the problem of pollution. The power of education is such that it can elevate a person socially. The fact that education is the reason behind the prosperity of many is not new to anyone. Of course intelligence plays an important role too but the prime factor remains education and most importantly, an opportunity to education.

I live in a small village called Petit Raffray where most of its inhabitants earn a living from agriculture, be it sugarcane or vegetable plantation or cattle rearing. My family is one of the rare ones to be educated and to live quite comfortably all this thanks to my parents' hard work and to our inherited property. However, not all families are that lucky and I am conscious of it. And most families have several kids in secondary schools and cannot even afford the minimum, that is books and copybooks. These parents are interested in the education of their children, but they are just helpless. Of course they do work a lot, they spend almost every minute of their waking time in the fields working the land or finding plants for their animals but still their earnings are meager.

When we came to live here six years ago and the inhabitants came to know that my sister is a teacher and is giving private tuitions, they approached her with the hope that she would give tuitions at a low price. Now I have taken up that "job". You guys know how I always talk about giving tuitions etc... I have never been tempted to mention that I give most of my students free tuitions. I'm saying this today because a post from someone has touched me and I wanted to show my involvement in eliminating poverty in my locality. I hope these go as an example to those willing to do it too:

Most of the tuitions given to students in my locality are free.

Since I got many fiction books at home, I lend them to my students so that they would not have to pay for the loan from a library and I encourage them to subscribe to public libraries since their subscription fees are very low.

I also give them papers cut from my copybooks and paper files made by myself where they can store these papers without losing them.

All photocopies are free.

I have been giving tuitions for 2 years now and every year I try to introduce something new to encourage my students in their education. Lack of materials can be a great disincentive to education and I'm happy I'm helping them overcome this.

This post was written because I'm participating in MBB's theme of the week, which is poverty.

conspiracy theories

Do you believe in conspiracy theories? I don't! Why? Because I don't want to. It's too much of a waste of time and waste of resources without forgetting waste of mind. But then when something become so obvious that you cannot ignore them, then, well, you cannot ignore them.

One of those things is the weird fire spree that takes place every year around the same date near my house. Yeah! Today we noticed a huge fire in the forest, it was really weird and since my mum was scared that it burns down our electric pole, we called 115 and the firemen took a whole 45 minutes to find the place. I thought after all these years the guys working there knew our address by heart! Anyway, after half an hour of firefighting the fire was under control.

My point is, last year, on the 26th of November, something similar happened, the sugarcane field in front of my house caught fire. I had even blogged about it! Oh God! I was so stupid then, finding a fire something fun! Now it's not. I remember in 2001 something similar happened and it was in November.

You see! It is a sign! It is a fucking sign! eekBut I don't know what it means! rolleyes

The last time the firemen talked about sabotage. I mean what is there to sabotage in a cane field? But the first time it was the savanna and this time it's the forest. It's private property damage or whatever and I think we gotta put an end to this! hmmph...

Anyway, see ya'll dudettes and dudes and my paranoid aliens.

P.S: I got a new haircut! :P It makes me look like her, but I'm quite happy with it! :D

You know what this smile means? Never ever try to take a picture of yourself when you've just woken up. Here's what it will look like! I'm just too lazy to take a good pic! redface

Vermilion part 2 - Slipknot

I discovered the album Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and consequently this song back in 2004. Yeah I did not know about Slipknot before that, my knowledge of Slipknot was limited to those designs on freaky black t-shirts I saw guys wear near Rose-Hill's bus station. I might as well say I had a huge prejudice against those guys and Slipknot! rolleyes Come to think of it, I still have a huge prejudice against those guys but not against Slipknot! Anyway, coming back to the song, I was impressed when I first listened to it because of the title itself and of its lyrics. Here they are:

She seemed dressed in all of me, stretched across my shame.
All the torment and the pain
Leaked through and covered me
I'd do anything to have her to myself
Just to have her for myself
Now I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do when she makes me sane.

She is everything to me
The unrequited dream
A song that no one sings
The unattainable, Shes a myth that I have to believe in
All I need to make it real is one more reason
I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do when she makes me sad.

But I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

A catch in my throat choke
Torn into pieces
I won't, no!
I don't wanna be this...

But I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me
I won't let this build up inside of me

She isn't real
I can't make her real
She isn't real
I can't make her real

Quoting Wikipedia:

The lyrics in Vermilion have been heavily influenced by the concepts of German philosopher Frederich Nietzsche and French philosopher René Descartes. "I'm a slave, and I am a master" refers to Nietzsche's master-slave morality theory, while "I exist through my need" and "She isn't real, I can't make her real" refers to Cartesian dualism.

It has been suggested that the title Vermilion comes from the word "Verisimilitude" which means "seeming to be real." This is supported by the lyrics "she isn't real", not to mention the fact that Vermilion itself is a colour, a shade of red implying the relations of the color red to the lyrics. Furthermore, in magazine interviews, lead singer Corey Taylor had stated that it was a love song for his now former wife Scarlett. This further ties in with the name of the song, "Vermilion" being a shade of red and Scarlett as well.

And the video, beware, it's a little weird!

Anyway, today I realised that the month is almost over and that I did not blog about a crush of the month, so I opened my media player and played lots of new songs but nothing really inspired me until I remembered this one. I asked Jev to send it to me because I never backup my music and I end up losing them every time my laptop has mood swings.

My favourite part in this song is this:

She is everything to me
The unrequited dream
A song that no one sings

Ahh the song no one sings! This is so damn romantic. OK I need to get a hold of myself. Been a while I haven't been like this. I think I'll spend the night reading and listening to Vermillion.

What I see when I listen to it? twisted For once it's the view from my room, that is, the forest and I feel the wind from the window. This is bliss dudettes and dudes, at least for now this is bliss to me!

So long!

Tired...

Too tired to "construct" a post. I just wanna express some feelings. Hope I'll be relieved after that!

I've got so much stuff to do that I feel like I'm gonna crack. Too much stress, too much work load, been a while I've lived life like I used to some weeks ago. For someone like me, not having fun is like hell! Yeah I wanna be carefree! I feel like I've grown up all of a sudden. Having to take care of this, take care of that! This is so damn ruining me. rolleyes The worst thing is that I'm rude to the people I love because I just can't handle stress. I tried to calm down last night I couldn't. The good thing is that this will be over soon. Once the vacations are here I can be happy and care free again! biggrin

Thanks for listening to me dudettes and dudes! You're my therapists! :D

By the way, got something funny to narrate. Today on MBB's forum someone told me that my blog looks like a cauliflower (chou-fleur)! hihi Am I the only one thinking he's never seen a cauliflower? mrgreen

Sorry can't help gossiping!

Online Communities

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The existence of online communities can be explained by the human kind's need to communicate. As the famous quote from John Donne goes, No man is an island. People spend so much time online, on the web that they start building a community there, sharing conversations with people having common interests and hobbies. And as the web connects people from all countries and cultures, this permits people to learn and share experiences from all around the globe. It is not only limited to one's physical neighbourhood or group of friends. During the past decades online communities have tremendously developed and have become part of our socio-cultural reality for some of us, at least. For instance, I have an offline life which is very much complementary with my online life. Often at dinners at relatives' place, I'm asked, "so how is your blog doing?" or when I try to take a picture of someone, I get the following response: "I hope this is not gonna be on your blog!" Ten years ago I don't think anyone would have known what's a blog or given such an importance to his/her online image.

Another thing is, we are spending more and more time online. The internet is no longer used just for the sake of checking ones mail or finding informations, it is used for more personal reasons from finding dates, making friends to earning money and publishing ones thoughts. For these different purposes exist different sites like myspace, hi5 and blog hosts. A common point in all these sites is the interaction that they provide to their members.

In brief, I attribute the existence of online communities to mankind's irrepressible need to communicate and share thoughts irrespective of where they are. In other words, we are building a parallel world, an online world.
