Hot and here.

Summer's here, at least in my part of the country it is. I'm sweating, not like in December but it's still sweat and mosquitoes are doing their rounds, as usual, for the sole purpose of annoying people and to occasionally feed on their blood.

Today I woke up at 3 a.m by the sounds of those pests as they were hovering around my ears. I did all I could to make them stop but to no avail. So I ended up wasting some precious sleeping time. I rose at 5 and got a mosquito repellent. Haha! And they were done. I could now sleep for another 2 hours before waking up at around 7. Dr Thomas Garavan, the Limerick guy's lecture was supposed to start at 10:45. I had ample time to shower, have breakfast, get ready and take the bus to Reduit.

The lecture was very interesting. The guy is truly well versed in Human Resource Development (HRD) and he applied some of the concepts to the Mauritian context.

By noon the lecture was over and I chatted with my buddies for a while before heading home. Port-Louis was warm and stuffy. The north was a little less warm but I still felt like I badly needed a shower when I got home.

All these go to say that the signs are here; we're entering summer!

Despite all these, I don't hate summer. Infact, when it comes to summer my feelings are quite mixed. On one side there are the perspirations, mosquitoes and smelly people in the bus and on the other side there are the flowers, colours, beverages and most importantly the holidays and celebrations.

I think out of the two seasons that we have, summer is definitely my favourite as that's the season wherein we have Divali, Christmas and New Year and I always associate it with shoppings and gifts...

Smelly people

Yesterday, in the bus, I came across not 1, not 2, but 3 stinky persons. I know it's horrible of me to be writing about it, but I gotta let it out. The smell is still stuck in my head. Yeah, it was that horrible. You see, I know we're almost in summer and people tend to sweat and all. But I swear the smell was not that of sweat. It was the sort of smell my elder cousin emanates when he has not bathed for a week. And so I had to open all possible windows and hold my breath for a long long time. It was even worst when the person sitting next to me had to raise her arm to ring the bell. I would have totally preferred it if she had asked me to ring it for her...

Argh dudettes and dudes, I don't think a small bath is too much to ask for.

Winter Blooms

Winters are far from being harsh in Mauritius. However they do bring in their toll of fallen leaves and dying summer plants.

This winter brought in 2 major flower-surprises to me. The first one is this yellow flower below whose name I don't know (but I'm looking for).

The second one is this dark red Gerberra which looked dead in summer and which got back its beauty as winter crawled in.

The garden now looks a little more colourful, in addition to the Geraniums which have not yet stopped blossoming.

This weird plant below is a wild pale purple flower which is growing on the wall just below my room. It is great to wake up in the morning and be greeted by them. However, I think my mum will have them cut in the weekend as she hates wild flowers.

Last, but not least, is the cotton plant which grows in the rest of our untamed property, where my mother lets wild things grow. This plant is definitely one of my favourite as it reminds me of the time when we first came to live in our house and how mesmerising I found this plant.

Cotton plants last a long time and they are incredible in dried plants arrangements. So if you live in Mauritius and are looking for cotton plants, you know where to look for them. I'll be willing to share. ;)

By the way, before opening up fully, a cotton flower looks like this:

I'm searching in my image gallery for a fully opened cotton flower. So I'll be updating this post soon. ;)

See ya dudettes and dudes and my winter flower-loving aliens.

Exit summer time.

Great great great! Summer time will be over tomorrow as from 2 a.m from what I heard. This means one more hour of sleep for me. One more hour of watching TV or taking my time to have breakfast. One more precious hour. At last!

The bad part is that when I'll be returning home in the evening, it will already be dark, but I don't really care right now. All I care for is my precious sleep! :D

Go ahead and enjoy life as it was before summer time dudettes and dudes!

Cyclones do come...

My life has turned upside down ever since the day blogger started hating me. And now I'm totally pissed and in the fuck you mood and I don't want anyone to ever ask me what happened. I'm thinking of temporarily moving to another host so that I could have an interesting life all over again but I've got a feeling that would not help solve the situation.

Ahh, but only time will tell dudettes and dudes and my confused aliens.

Anyway, a cyclone is brewing overhead and its name is Gula. I don't know why they named it Gula. It might be some sort of gluttonous (I don't even know if the word exists) cyclone and it's taking its sweet time to manifest itself like any other summer cyclone with some self-esteem. Yeah I know nothing I'm saying is making sense.

Anyway I'm not against the prospect of a cyclone. In fact, I'm all for it. For once I'm prepared. You wanna know why?

Yeah, that used to be a large burgundy rubber plant (ficus elastica decora 'Burgundy'). It now means V for victory! Hihi!

As I sit and write this, I'm longing for a huge plate of macaronis! It's such a gratifying feeling when you can actually sit down and fantasize on food you've cooked.

Argh... I guess I gotta stop here dudettes and dudes and my hungry aliens.

Wild Flowers

While summer rains are the delight of any gardener (I'm not a
gardener, it just sounds cool to say it that way). So, where was I?
Yup, while summer rains are the delight of any gardener, some wild
plants benefit from it too. Today I went for a small walk and saw some
really common wild plants in the area.

The Argemone mexicana (mexican poppy) is a very attractive wild flower
which can be lethal at the same time. Its seeds contain toxic
substances called alkaloids sanguinarine and dihydrosanguinarine. I've
had a painful experience with a mexican poppy some years ago. One of
its thorns remained in my finger for 1 whole year!

Next comes the lantana, often referred to as the
shrub verbena. The lantana comes in different colors from orange, red,
pink, yellow to white. This plant is invasive and can easily cover a
large space, especially after heavy rains. Its leaves can be
irritating to some people's and children's skins, so some cautions
have to be taken. The lantana is a very popular plant in Mauritius and
is often used in landscaping.

Next comes fluffy, OK you got it, I don't know the name of this
flower, but fluffy sounds great, huh? It is terribly fluffy and it
smells real good! I tried typing "fluffy white wild flower" on Google
but I did not get the real name of fluffy. On this picture fluffy is
seen along with a dried friend. Anyway, I hope I find fluffy name soon
enough.

Hmm, so much about some summer wild flowers dudettes and dudes and my
wild aliens. Yeah I know, who cares about wild flowers? But I do... So
long!

How I got sick

It's 1.37 AM and I'm still awake. This is really weird. I mean really really weird cause I'm supposed to have nothing to do and still I can't find sleep. OK, the real thing is, yesterday I slept for 22 hours! Yes it was 22 hours out of 24! It was so damn good. Now I know why some people are addicted to drugs(medicine, legal). LOL! (That was just in case my mum is reading my blog. Oh! and hello family!). I forgot to add, I was sick, yup once again! It all started with a very sore throat, I blame the peanut ice-cream for that. Then my nose went out of control and then the fever came. The most unwelcomed fever in summer you might think?! But no! It made me feel damn cold!

So after sleeping for 22 hours at a go, here I am, at 1.46 AM still unable to find some sleep, hearing voices of some unknown children calling me "mom!" from the forest. Yeah I know they do not exist! But really, it's freaky!

So long dudettes and dudes and my spooky aliens!

P.S: I chose the title after writing this entry, but come to think of it, who really cares how I got sick or not?! I'm fine now!

The beach

Beaches, I love them! I've always thought that I love the beach so much because I'm a piscean . Might be true! Who knows! Have you ever felt the urge to just run to the beach and spend your whole life there? :P I got this urge today. It was quite uncontrollable and I went to the beach, at Pereybere with my family and we had so much fun, it was weird.

Anyway, just a short post to say I love swimming, I love beaches and I love summer! hehe!

Take care dudettes and dudes and my warm aliens!

P.S: The water was cool today! :P

summer's finally here!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucketwoooh! summer's here dudettes and dudes! OK, I know that's not the first time I'm saying it this year but this time it's really true! Today I went to attend a wedding ceremony and we were literally melting! Luckily my family decided to go home before the ceremony ended. So, on reaching home I went gardening and it was then that I've realised how much I loved summer cause that's the best season for gardening.

Moreover, this summer is the first time that my coconut tree has produced coconutsPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket and my palm trees have produced those lovely red seedsPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket which my dad calls "supay" or "supari" and which are used in prayers when dried.

And oh! we've got a new-comer on the earth patch near the kiosk, I totally love this white flower, though I don't know it's name.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Oh, something else, I got this from BbZush:

The designer of this award gave it out to 10 people with this in mind:

“I wanted to create something special for the top ten people who have inspired me through their blogging; the stories they tell, and the lives that they lead with grace and dignity. I visit their blogs for inspiration and encouragement.”
I pass this award on to everyone on my blogroll. I know it makes more than 10 but some of you won't accept it, so it'll be roughly 10. lol!

Have a wonderful day/night dudettes and dudes!

P.S: I specially wish to give this award to Jev cause he's always been there when I really needed to smile. :$

summer, where art thou?

Ah, at last a post from me. Now you'll ask me where I was. I was around people but I was sick. So sick that all the Kohl on my eyes faded away and for one day in the whole of my life (except when I was a kid, but who cares?). So for one whole day of my life I did not have kohl around my eyes. Aaaaaaaaah, can you imagine it? Don't run away, I will not dare show a picture of that. I admire Jev's courage of looking at me straight in the face after this. hihi.

So I slept early last night and woke up in my upstairs room. I did not sleep in my basement. I have not been sleeping there for a while actually. And that's because winter is freaking still here!

Well anyway, never mind this, at least the summer blossoms are in bloom and I've got some new bougainvilleas that are waiting to be planted.

Yeah I know another flower post! But this is mostly a gardening blog among others dudettes and dudes. You'll know what comes of these flowers later and oh, I bought some seeds to be sown too!

Take care people and my lovely aliens. I hope that I get better soon! rolleyes This cold is driving me nuts!

Lazy sunday

Today while giving tuitions, the girls asked me to give my opinion on fashion. It was like "miss, what do you think of new fashions?". And I asked them why they wanted to know my opinion (I was scared they'd say they wanted to know how old people saw the whole thing) but they just said that it'll be interesting to know. Interesting to know... Hmmm, I don't really think it'd be. I've never really been a fashion adept in the right sense of the word. I've adopted the modern punk style for many years of my life and recently I'm really normal, wearing sunny colors and all.

But I've decided to do something today! I've made tresses on my hair!
yaayy! But I don't know how long I'll be keeping them and whether I'll be going to class tomorrow with that! Let's see if I'm daring enough!twisted

This was fun to do. I'll be doing some more on my hair soon enough! Take care people.

And oh by the way, I've realised that I'm so totally in love with summer wild flowers growing everywhere on my street!
