Those books are sources of inspiration and great bedtime reads as well! I just can't remember when my father acquired them, I must have been real small or not yet born. (Yeah they are that old!) But then they have been nicely kept and not used really often, except the ones on outdoor structure and landscaping. Before the era of technology and the common use of the internet, I guess that's what craft lovers had to help them; those lovely, well-illustrated books.
Anyway, I still use those books as a source of inspiration and to look for solutions to certain problems. Most of the contents are still relevant today though the tools suggested in those books are quite outdated.
Ah! So much for one of my sources of inspiration dudettes and dudes and my bookish aliens. I've going to bed early today. I'm having a flu and I don't want that to develop into a fever. (I've been out in the rain today but it was fun... hihi)
P.S: I've put this thing into good use, huh Jev? :D
cakes received from a friend today. Excuse the poor quality of the pic.
Tomorrow we would be stepping into the year of the rat. Happy Spring festival everyone! :D
According to some stuff I just read, the year of the rat is supposed to be the year of renewals, of the start of new projects and that of fresh starts in careers. Well this suits me perfectly and I hope the year of the rat goes perfectly for all of you too. Best wishes for the coming year. It's always a great occasion to say happy new year all over again! :P
How could another month go by without me talking about the MH, Machine Head. Machine Head is one of my favourite bands, if not my favourite band and I've secretly got a crush on Robb Flynn.
So, the song from Machine Head that makes it to my crush of the month is Descend the Shades of Night. This is another song which will make those journalists who think rock songs do not have lyrics wish they did not voice their dumb opinions out loud in a newspaper. (Browse the archives to know what I'm talking about.)
Anyway, when I first heard the song,I instantly loved it. The lyric's awesome, the music's awesome, Robb Flynn's voice is awesome. The song is supposed to be about death, as you'll see by reading the lyrics
Sitting in the empty black The last slivers of dusk have passed Accept the dawn to ease the fear One day I will not be here Death she comes and with her thread Upon me ties a mask for dead Its tears of blood begin to seep And bleed the sky
Descend the shades of night Death shines her golden light Across a blackened sky All our hate is a product of a world... We created
Ashen clouds obscure my brain Doubts begin to turn to shame Insecureness tears at bliss I hate me for this weakness Faith drives me to carry on And take the road less travelled on Resentment swallowed means to drown The poison down The shades of night descend
Descend the shades of night Death shines her golden light Across a blackened sky All our hate is a product of a world... We created
Scream with me Bleed with me Seethe with me Sing with me
Free me Free me Free me
Descend the shades of night Death shines her golden light Across a blackened sky The shades of night descend
and by watching the video (live from rock am ring):
My favourite part is:
Scream with me Bleed with me Seethe with me Sing with me
What I think when I hear it; I think of all those who've been victims of wars, genocides, slavery or the holocaust. I think the only way of truly understanding their sufferings would be scream with them and bleed with them. And finally, singing brings hope. It reminds me of that little song in Animal Farm:
Beast of England, Beast of Ireland Beast of every land and clime hearken to my joyful tidings of the golden future time.
I've just read on the holocaust yet again, and I just wish to say something before ending this post; naming a band Holocaust is really LAME! I don't care if your music is good or not. At least take the pain to find out the meaning of the word you are using, because it's obvious you just found the word cool and bang!
Aah, so long dudettes and dudes and my hopeful aliens.
The seven deadly sins are vices that people should abstain from indulging in or else they would suffer some serious retributions. Those sins are pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony and lust; pride being the most severe one. Are you as shocked as me? I mean if we can no longer be proud, what can we be? Duh!
Anyway, the retribution in hell for each sin is:
Pride - broken on the wheel Envy - put in freezing water Anger - dismembered alive Sloth - thrown in snake pits Greed - put in cauldrons of boiling oil Gluttony - forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes Lust - smothered in fire and brimstone
Yeah I know! Eeewwww...
Many great persons have expressed themselves on the seven deadly sins but there is one person I want to quote today:
The Bible and several other self help or enlightenment books cite the Seven Deadly Sins. They are: pride, greed, lust, envy, wrath, sloth, and gluttony. That pretty much covers everything that we do, that is sinful... or fun for that matter.
Dave Mustaine
Well, Mustaine is a rock star, can't blame him. But what about us, mere mortals? I think those seven deadly sins were created to prevent people from indulging into excesses, not to be too vain, not to be too greedy... You got it. So the trick is not to over-indulge in stuff you love. ;) And about the retributions, I think you'll get what you deserve in this life and will pay for the consequences of your trespasses here itself.
Hmm, so much for the seven deadly sins dudettes and dudes and my sinful aliens.
